Clarkson Quits: Will the Nats Run a Stooge?

Bobclarkson It looks like Bob Clarkson has been muscled out of standing again for Tauranga.  The Nats want those juicy centre-left reactionary votes that Winston provides for them.  They intend to let him win the seat back.

Hopefully, the local party in Tauranga has other ideas, and selects someone with enough gravitas and motivation to take him on.  Hell, maybe I should put my own name in!  I'd do anything to see Winston off.

UPDATE:  Looks like I'm wrong about the stooge - Simon Bridges has put his name forward for the nomination already.  He's the Chair of Tauranga National and by the looks of things should be quite good enough if nobody even better comes forward.

Your theory is rubbish. Clarkson retired because he wanted to go, not because he was forced to. Mind you, Clarkson's specialty was housing/construction, and I'm not aware of anything he did lately to suggest he was in the thick of this issue in parliament.

Expect an aggressive young turk to take his place, and they won't be doing ANY deals with Peters.

Well I hope so Mr Rubbish, I hope so...

I slightly disagree with Rubbish, Bob did have a lot of ideas about improving construction in NZ while cutting the red tape.

But he sat in opposition for three years for nothing and no promise that anything would be better under the new look National govt.

Bob's a doer not a talker which is why he has found it hard to sit on the opposition beches and not much promise of anything better if National was elected.

MMP was meant to resolve this problem but it hasn't.

Well I reckon despite Key's overtures (he is the king of pragmatism), National are out to fuck NZ1st once and for all with this selection........at least I hope so.
For this country to get out of it's 20th century poliical mentality........Peters, Dunne, Clark and Cullen must go.
