Lincoln Tan's Botany Straw Poll

Interesting article in Granny Herald today.  All sorts of things for a campaign manager to digest.

I am not too worried about the straw poll.  The sample is small and the campaign has only just begun.  I remember that at this point in the campaign in Epsom at the last election, Rodney Hide was polling third behind Labour's Stuart Nash.  Koro Tawa's support is also well below what I would expect him to have.

What is encouraging is to see nine of the voters supporting ACT.  That suggests that some sort of impact is being made by our yellow billboards and leaflets.

All in all there are good foundations to build on here.  It is clear that the National vote in Botany mirrors that nationwide.  We just need to get the message out there that, while National supporters can best support that party with the party vote, a vote for Pansy Wong will be wasted.

The thrust of the article - that immigrant voters don't understand NZ Politics - is of far more concern, although it may be a bit of scaremongering on Tan's part.  Of course there is some confusion out there, but I am not sure that it is totally widespread.  Kenneth does not share Tan's pessimism. Nevertheless, it is hugely important that we educate as much as we campaign.

I am confident about where we are and our ability to pull level in the next couple of weeks.  Watch us go ;o)

I love Pansy Wong, she's as intelligent as I am.
