Twice the Money, and Still They Want More

Listen to these whining Oliver Twists with their hands out.

Labour has doubled the health budget since 1999.  What more do these people want?  Are they honestly this stupid that they think even more money will change things?

I suppose we should be grateful that at least they have stopped whining about "the failed policies of the '80s and '90s".

Oh. The Irony.

The British Left just have no concept of it do they?

"Hundreds of protesters are expected to gather outside the Oxford Union today to demand that the convicted Holocaust denier David Irving and BNP leader Nick Griffin are excluded from a debate on free speech."

My God.  Has it really come to this:  That isolationist fascists like Irving and Griffin could be considered so dangerous that rational argument and debate cannot defeat them?

And therein is a further irony.  The modern left has become what they despise:  A fascist threat to the freedom of us all.  I'm not scared of David Irving, but I fear Helen Clark, Michael Cullen, and their vile army of useful idiots here in New Zealand.

A Constitution for New Zealand

Setting up a binding Constitution would not be quite so difficult as one might suppose.  It's not so much what one would put in it, as having a legal structure to work within in the first place.  It would be a simple, unrepealable Act of Parliament that would read something similar to what I have written below:

1.  This Act establishes a Constitution by and for the People of New Zealand to be the Supreme Law of New Zealand and all its territories.  No past, present or future Act or resolution of Parliament or any assembled body, shall bind, alter or revoke it, except as specified herein.

2.  Clauses of this Constitution may only be added, amended or revoked by resolution of a fairly held referendum of all New Zealand citizens over the age of eighteen in which more than twice as many of the votes cast are in favour of the resolution as are opposed.

3.  A resolution to add to, amend or revoke clauses of this Constitution shall only be brought to referendum by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New Zealand upon

a) a motion passed by the New Zealand House of Representatives, or;
b) a petition of no less than 50,000 New Zealand citizens over the age of eighteen.

upon presentation of which the Chief Justice must hold a referendum within six months.

4.  The Chief Justice may alter the wording of any proposed resolution only to reflect the intent of the original motion or petition with greater clarity and less ambiguity.

5.  Final interpretation of the clauses of this Constitution shall be ruled upon by the Supreme Court of New Zealand.  In cases where this Constitution's intent is unclear, priority shall be given to law existing prior to the establishment of this Constitution.

I'm not a lawyer, so I am sure there are better ways of phrasing what I have put down here.  But the point is to have something that people can build on themselves, rather than a bunch of people thrashing something out in a room and imposing something on us that we don't want.

Win-Win Situation

LiljohnnyIf li'l Johnny Howard loses tonight, I will be most happy.  Despite the gratitude that the convict-spawn owe him for making tax cuts a non-partisan issue in the West Island, he is the worst kind of conservative - a neocon.  His foolish support for the war in Iraq, his removal of basic human rights for some Australians on the basis of race, and his promise to spend $11b more than his opponents should by rights see him given the arse.

The opposition ALP is a decent Labour party - one that believes in the value of hard work and the principle of returning people's taxes, unlike the corrupt vermin that inhabit our Beehive.  Kevin "earwax" Rudd will make a great Prime Minister.

There's also the simple premise that governments just should be booted out after a certain amount of time for the sake of democracy - one reason why I was pleased to see the demise of the tired and arrogant seatwarmers of the Shipley administration here in '99.

If Howard survives however, I will be equally pleased.  I think lefties should be given a kicking as often as possible.  I want to crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and hear the lamentation of what the left pass off as women!

See?  I win either way :oP

"Fascist"? Well If the Cap Fits...

Madness.

More madness.

Blatantly certifiable.

'Ms Bradford said at the time the incident, which appeared isolated, showed the law was working well.

"I think it's really great that the school had the courage to report the woman and that it sounds from what little we know that the processes are being followed exactly as police and CYF told us they would be when we put this through Parliament."

Ms Bradford said that public smacking could be a sign of bigger problems occurring behind closed doors.'

You fucking fascist.  You vile scum.  How dare you deign to tell other parents how to bring up their kids when your own child jumped off Grafton Bridge.  Frankly, if you were my mother I'd do the same thing.

On top of everything else, we now have the piece de resistance:  The new police guidelines for dealing with protests.  New Zealand is starting to look more and more like the People's Republic of China every day.

What grave sin did we commit before God to allow us to be ruled by such evil men and women?

Communal Tyranny a Jail That Bleeds Our Wrists

Okay, first of all, you should start playing this before you read the rest of the post.  It's a soundtrack you know ;o)

Whoa.  Lindsay Perigo has called for the overthrow of the government!

CromwellI have long surmised that, without any form of constitution, or entrenched rights, or safeguards, or division of powers, or vetos, true freedom in New Zealand will be impossible.  The current democratic framework of absolute power for a simple parliamentary majority will always entrench socialism and always result in that majority exercising tyranny over the rest.

We have seen that, even after nine years, despite all that has passed, Labour remains at 40% in the polls - enough to keep it in power.  As long as 40% of people in this country wish to dictate my life and how I live to me, they are able to do so.  That is wrong.

Make no mistake:  If New Zealand had retained the Legislative Council, or, as Jim Bolger wished, set up a Senate, the Electoral Finance Bill would be dog tucker.  If we had an elected or popularly confirmed Governor General with veto powers, Royal Assent would be unlikely.

To be sure, this government should be overthrown - by any means necessary, as Malcolm X would say.  And I would love to wander into Parliament's debating chamber, Uzi in hand and militia in tow, and quote Cromwell at these bastards:

“You have been sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you.  In the name of God, go!”

However, there are more civilised ways to make an omlette, and ones which lead to better outcomes.  Besides, in November next year it's probable that we could be rid of them perfectly legally.  Let's hold our fire until then at least, shall we?

In the meantime, perhaps we should organise?  New Zealand desperately needs a single document Constitution - one that guarantees rights of person and property, freedom of speech, a Senate, a popularly confirmed Governor General with rights of veto, impeachment clauses... the works.  Let's put the basic foundations of our society beyond the reach of the politicians.  How about it?

Socialism Doesn't Work

They've been trying it for ninety years now.  And every generation, some demagogue comes along and thinks they can succeed where others have failed.

Now Venezuelans are discovering for themselves, like it was a surprise, or a shock, or something you couldn't have figured out without giving it a try.  Well duh.

Sadly, people are going to keep trying.  The desire to look cool in a Che Guevara tshirt and control the lives of others will trump any reality check.

Got Milk?

Heathermills Heather Mills is trying to discourage people from eating dairy products.  Because Global Warming(TM) is bad, m'kay?

Well sorry Heather, I happen to like blue cheese on my crackers and sour cream with my wedges and I'm not giving them up because the people of Tokelau get flooded occasionally.  So naff off, you silly vegan twat.

Just further proof that, in Global Warming(TM), the left have truly found the jackboot with which they can (use their artificial limbs to) stomp on the human face forever.

ACT Logic

1.  The current Appropriations legislation is due to expire;
2.  If we don't introduce new legislation, we'll revert to the old law;
3.  The Auditor General said the old law was bad;
4.  So let's vote for the new law - it's better than nothing;
5.  And because National are voting against it, they should refuse funding for their parliamentary staff on principle.

I'm sorry, but that's BULLSHIT.

It honestly is the lamest excuse for voting for legislation I have ever heard in my entire life.  Shit law is shit law.  You don't vote for it because the governing party refuses to offer up an alternative.  That's YOUR job Rodney.  You put up an amendment, and if it fails, the Bill is still shit and you don't vote for it.  Come on, you know this stuff.  You've been there eleven years.  Geez, even an abstention would have been acceptable.

The reality, and irony, is that ACT has been on the public tit more than any other party in parliament in the MMP era.  They had state-funded temporary Electorate Agents push-polling Epsom at the last election.  They want to use your tax dollars to do it again this time around.  They have neither guts nor principles.  They think voting for this legislation, under the guise of supporting "accountable bulk-funding" will insulate them if challenged on their attachment to Parliamentary Services' mammary glands.  Pathetic.

It comes down to Rodney Hide.  He is completely unreliable.  He cares solely about keeping his seat and being on television, and he will do anything to ensure the perpetuation of both.  This vote is where you see the mask slip.  What he wanted at the last election was to get rid of his caucus, and hopefully win Epsom.  Despite having access to both financial and intellectual capital for a thorough campaign, he elected not to use them.  He basically downed tools, played chicken with the ACT Party, and was very successful at it.  With five weeks to go, the Board blinked and John Boscawen took over his campaign.  Every ACT person I've discussed this with has disputed me of course, but the alternative is accepting that Rodney is stupid, disorganised and incompetent, and I don't believe it for a second.

I want to support ACT.  I really do.  I want a liberal party in parliament that will vote against anti-terror legislation and call it fascist.  I want a party that will stand up for the things that National no longer has the balls to.  But I don't trust Rodney Hide, either on a personal or political level.  Perhaps he has changed over the past two years.  I hope so.  But he has work to do.  Right now ACT just looks like a waste of time.

Wetness Inevitable

What a prick.  Words fail me.

Our useless media and politicians never once consider:

  • The implications of banning skyrockets, guaranteeing the manufacture of"cannon" style fireworks with much less "accuracy" and more potential to cause harm;
  • Why on earth a toddler in a pram is outside at the time of a live fireworks display, fifteen metres away?

I'm sick of these petty fascists.  So sick of them.  Tame Iti finishing some of them off might have been a blessing.

The Dangers of Cake

Long prevalent overseas, it looks like this insidious drug has claimed its first New Zealand victim.

Dear Leader decrees tax cuts

What's the bet that these tax cuts will most likely resemble cynical income redistribution. Those that pay the most tax (not labour supporters) will get little or no relief. This ineffectual exercise will prove once again, that Labour is National in drag.

Abolish the ASA

What a waste of time and money this body is.

If you don't think something on TV is appropriate for kids, don't let them watch.  Bloody hell.  It's not 1984, folks.  It's not compulsory to have it switched on 24/7.

Better still, watch it with your kids and discuss what you watch with them.  Wow, imagine that.  Quality time with your kids, and they learn something too.

I'm not a parent, but surely you would think parents would take some responsibility for their own kids instead of blaming the television.  Abolishing the ASA might be a great start to that sort of change in attitude.

Smart Politics from C&R

This is very clever from David Hay.  Instead going for straight time-serving and seniority, he's given all the Auckland City chairmanships to C&R's fresh faces - the ones with the slimmest majorities and lowest profiles.  Naturally, the lefties are fuming, especially at the gender imbalance.  Boohoo for them.  Where'd your ticket go, Cathy?  :oD

Space Cadet Officially Leaves Solar System

Martynbomberbradbury I'm going to republish this in full - it's too good not to share.  The only way that Bomber could have made it more perfect was by blaming George W. Bush:

"Boy blamed for blaze in L.A.
A boy playing with matches started a fire in north Los Angeles County that consumed more than 15,378ha and destroyed 21 homes last week, a sheriff's sergeant said. It was among more than a dozen wildfires that killed 14 people and blackened 2095sq k. THANK GOD! Here was I thinking that it was incredibly poor urban planning on the behalf of greedy developers who have sprawled out further and further into these fire danger prone zones combined with the realities of global warming, thank fuck it was just a kid! At one point Fox News reported that it could be an Al Qaeda plot, the sheer denial people can drive themselves to in order to avoid the reality of global warming is amazing."

Duh!

Somebody tell Reuters, or the Stuff Editor at least, that the free world's premier legislative body is not called "the Senatorate"!
Senatorate

Ron Paul Kicks Arse

He gets on the Tonight Show, pretty much nails it AND gets an endorsement from the Sex Pistols!  Bring on Iowa and New Hampshire!
